History

This is the older of the two royal cities in Central Java (the other is Yogyakarta), and its ruling family can lay claim to being the rightful heirs to the Mataram dynasty. Like Yogyakarta, Solo has two royal palaces and a number of museums, yet its tourist industry is nowhere near as developed. The city's main source of income is from textiles, and Solo has the biggest batik market on Java. Solo also makes an ideal base from which to visit the home of Java Man at Sangiran, as well as the intriguing temples Candi Ceto and Candi Sukuh.
Kasunanan Surakarta

Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat utawa Keraton Kasunanan iku istana Kasunanan Surakarta ing kutha Surakarta, Jawa Tengah. Istana iki dibangun taun 1745 dening raja Paku Buwono II. Keraton iki salah siji warisan luhur budaya Jawa. Sabubaré Sri Susuhunan Pakubuwono XII seda, dhampar kraton dadi rebutan pangeran loro. Kaloroné ngaku resmi dadi Sri Susuhunan Paku Buwono XIII, yaiku Tedjo Wulan lan Hangabehi.
Name of Solo

The local inhabitants are more familiar with and use the name of "Solo" or "Sala" for the city, rather than "Surakarta". "Surakarta" is, however, used in formal and official contexts. The city has a similar name with the neighboring district of "Kartasura", where the previous capital of Mataram was located.

FORMERLY, this building was called Grootmoedigheid and was built by General Baron Van Imhoff in 1745 as the fort of the Dutch Indie army for the central Java territory. This fort was built in the middle of the town, close to the Kasunanan palace, so that the army could easily watch the movements inside the palace. This fort was closely related to the residence of the Dutch governor.

This building lies in the same ground as the residence buildings of the high rank army officers.

Surrounded by 6 metre high bearing wall and ditch, this building has a small bridge connecting it to the outside.

After the independence, this site was used by the military personnels of Brigade Infantry 6/Trisakti Baladaya/Kostrad (army strategic commander). The buildings inside the site are divided into residences for the army personnels and their family.
